Walnut Sewing/Quilting Class – Session #6

disclaimer: This site & page is not in any way part of, sponsored by,

WELCOME to the

“Sewing and Quilting SOCIAL”

class project information page.

My name is Rhonda and I am the instructor in this  class.

As the instructor of the Sewing & Quilting SOCIAL class I was looking for an easier way for you, my students, to get all the specific information on the class projects, such as: what and when we will be starting each one, what fabric or supplies you will need to bring to class, etc.   I want you to be able to participate so PLEASE check back here often.   Remember though, you are not required to take part in the class project.   If you are working on a sewing or quilting project at home and you’d like to bring it in and work on it during class, that is fine.   If you are very new to sewing or your machine is new to you and you want to practice with fabric scraps or even on paper until you feel more secure, and before spending money on fabric, that is understandable and also fine.   But, if you don’t have a home project to work on, you’re not really sure what to do or you just don’t want to practice on your own, then the step by step approach of the provided class project is for you.   Whatever you decide, whatever you want to work on, whatever is best for YOU, as long as it’s sewing or quilting related, it is completely fine. I will be working with those that are doing the class project but will do whatever I can to help anyone that needs help as time permits.   We come together to learn, practice our sewing or quilting skills, and enjoy the company of those that share similar interests. So whether you want to take part in the class projects or you want to do your own thing you are WELCOME in this class and I am glad to have you.   Now let’s have some FUN!

Well, I’m home from the classes at Walnut. It’s sad to have the session end but everyone has said they are going to be back for Session #7  plus 3 have said they want to take the QUILTING class. One of the three is a mom of one of the  girls in my sewing class, one is a mom of one of the students in my Paper Art class and one is a student that is already in my sewing class.

Here are a few pictures of today’s class.  These students (and their moms) are so special to me. We’ve become a team of sorts….laughing, joking and learning. It’s a great class …………..  Thank you ALL for making my life better.  HUGS!

This is one of my students that has been with me since the beginning …. she’s working on a baby quilt for her soon to arrive blessing.

Here’s another completed apron.  Adorable!  She actually completed hers way before anyone else and ended up helping others.

You did a GREAT job!!! BTW she wants to be a fashion designer.  She’s so talented.  I have no doubt she’s going to make it.

The new session begins Sept 12th.  If you are interested please speak with one of the front desk staff members or contact me.  The sessions are 1 1/2 hours each for 6 weeks.  The cost is $32.00 per session. You need a sewing machine and you are responsible for all supplies.

We’d love to have you join us.                                             Rhonda working hard sewing

This picture is from last week.  This young lady is a  very young beginner who is doing fantastic.  She works hard and with great concentration.  She’s making this for her mom.  That’s very special!

Some of you were able to complete them and others will be completing them during session #7.  One of the students made a tote bag and started on a baby quilt (you can see her working diligently on it  in the background) for a soon to arrive  blessing in their home. She will continue on it as the new session begins. Remember….the summer schedule has ended at the center so the sessions will now be 6 weeks long.  Don’t let the new session begin without signing up.

ALSO:
if you are interested in a Beginners Quilting class please let me know. Once 4 or more people are interested we can add it to the schedule.  If a class during the week is better for you, let me know that also.  We want to make the classes convenient for you and your schedule if at all possible.

Hi everyone.  We are down to the last 2 Saturdays of this session.  I want to remind everyone that the next session will be SIX weeks long so the cost will increase. Check with the front desk to make sure but I think the cost is $32.00

We will be starting on a tote bag (I think).  I’ll have more on this before the start of the next session. It will be posted under “Walnut Sewing/Quilting Class – Session #7”.  Also for those of you that are in the 1:30 to 3:00 pm class I have been told that if we don’t get additional students for that time slot you will be asked to attend the noon to 1:30 class.  Tell your friends and family about the classes. Let keep both sewing classes going PLUS add an additional quilting class.  If you are interested in learning how to make a quilt please let me know. A minimum of 4 students have to be enrolled to add a class.

Session #6:
We will be making aprons using Simplicity pattern number 1147.
They are less than $3.00 each and Walmart carries them.

On the back of the pattern you will find all the information you will need regarding the amount of fabric you will need to purchase for your size and any notions you will need.  (Click on the image and you will be able to view it larger and clearer)

You will need bias tape. Walmart carries this also. It is normally next to the thread (You will need thread to match your fabric also – so get it while you’re there).  It is in a package like this:

biastapeActually the apron takes FOUR PACKAGES of bias tape not 4 yards.  Be smarter than your instructor and buy the correct amount needed.  oops!!!  🙁

For NEW and returning students:  if you have ANY questions about your supplies, class, etc., you can contact me by leaving a comment below, by email or by phone.

One Response so far.

  1. admin says:

You will need FOUR PACKAGES of bias tape not four yards……..sorry

AND one more reminder….if you get fabric that has a pattern that runs just one direction be sure to purchase a bit more so you will have enough.

    Hope to see you there.
