April-National Serger Month

What is a serger?  What does it do?  Do I need one?

A serger (many times referred to as an overlock machine) sews, trims away the excess fabric in the seam allowance with the attached knife and finishes off the  edge of the seams  with an overlock stitch in one quick and easy step. They give whatever you are sewing a neat and professional look. They  can also be used to make decorative edges, attach elastic, gather and  are very useful  when sewing with stretchy knit fabrics or fabrics that have a tendency to fray.

You don’t have to own  one to start sewing (I sewed for years without owing one) but they do make a great addition to your regular sewing machine.

I have one, made by Singer, that  my late husband bought me “years” ago. It has gotten  lots and lots  of miles on it  but is still humming sweetly along.

So………… if you ever have the opportunity to acquire a serger for your own, do so.  Take the time to learn how to use it (it’s not difficult) and  you won’t be sorry.

Have a great day everyone………………

and remember, be thankful, prayerful and kind.
