First Tutorial Completed
Yesterday I completed the first tutorial for my quilting students at the Neighborhood Recreation Center. Like the “first” of most things it’s pretty rough but hopefully it will be helpful for them. They are working on a Christmas quilt and one of the blocks is created using a specific type of paper piecing that we’ve never covered in class before. This particular type of paper piecing uses freezer paper, you don’t sew through the paper so you don’t have the bother of removing the paper after the block is assembled and you can use the same paper pattern more than once.
New techniques can be difficult and we have limited classroom time so having a video may help. It is on youtube but is posted under “private” settings so a link is needed to view it. As I get better I plan on posting tutorials for original quilt designs. For now though, I get practice and my students get extra help they can access at home.
For a short while, I worked on a quilt pattern that continues to cause me problems. I’ve never struggled with a pattern so much but I WILL get it done!
For practice and fun…..I created a little placemat using scraps, a few templates and a new, (to me), type of applique. I may eventually use the technique in creating a quilt but making a few placemats first allows me the practice without commenting to a whole quilt. The only thing I have left to do on this first one is to hand sew the binding around the edge.
Well, that’s all the news for now. I hope you have a great day.
Big, big hugs and…
