Memory Quilt
I always wished I had made quilts from the clothes that belonged to my loved ones that passed on years ago. I wasn’t quilting very much then so their clothes weren’t saved and now they are no longer available. I have thought about photo memory quilts but I know they fade if washed often. I really wanted a quilt that could be used, snuggled up in, washed often, and not one that is just hung on a wall, even though those can be amazingly beautiful. Because of that, I never made a memory quilt.
BUT,
today I read about a memorial quilt where the person creating the quilt used novelty fabrics that pictured the things their loved one liked or things that simply reminded the quilter of that special person. What a great idea. My mom liked butterflies babies, country music, etc. My grandmother liked to cook, flowers, babies, etc. It would be so easy to come up with fabric to make a memory quilt using novelty fabric. I also thought I could use embroidery on plain fabric to record special dates and memories to add details to go along with the novelty fabric.
Yippee! I’m so excited and can’t wait to plan, design and get started collecting the fabric for the new quilts.
How about YOU?
Do you have memories of a loved one that you’d like to design a quilt around?
What an exciting possibility. Maybe this can be the start of a new quilting class.
A “MEMORY QUILT” class.
Let me know if you’d be interested.
