Should I?
This past week I did some alteration work on the top of a quinceanera dress. Though it is a rather simple top it reminded me of when I worked with Antonio Corbie of Davant Designs. I could hear him saying, “Woman, you need to design your own gowns.” “What are you afraid of?” “Why do you wait?”
This morning I find myself wondering if now is the time. I have numerous designs on paper and many more in my head. I have everything I need except a professional design form. The type I need is expensive. They are marked for draping, have collapsible shoulders and they come in one size per form.
In my limited research, I read that size 14 is the most commonly worn size but not the most purchased. Sizes 4 to 8 are the most purchased, especially in gowns I can use padding on the form to go up a couple of sizes but I still wonder, if I can come up with the money, what would be the best size to purchase.
One thing that kept me from doing this in the past was not having a location where clients could come for sizing and fittings BUT if I make the dresses as sized, not custom fit, that would not be an issue.
The real question is, will they sell?
Much prayer is needed.
